Frequently Asked Questions
The delivery of wedding bouquets, installations and bespoke orders will be discussed with you as part of the consultation process.
All other floral arrangements, bouquets, wreaths, wreath kits and stems will arrive in specially designed protective cardboard boxes. These can be recycled or repurposed as storage for your blooms when you are not displaying them. We specifically designed our boxes as we have found the biggest headache with permanent florals is storing them safely to avoid any crushing. Most wreath containers on the market are soft zipper bags that offer no real protection at all.
We hope that when you open our boxes you will see the love and care that has gone into sending them safely to you. The box is sealed with recyclable tape, and the blooms will be wrapped in recyclable tissue and brown paper, natural twine, soluble starch-based packing peanuts, and some beautiful ribbon. The ribbon isn’t recyclable but who would want to recycle ribbon anyway? It’s another piece to reuse for your collection!

Permanent florals, sometimes called faux flowers, have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, though there are some poor-quality versions out there still, including in well-known high street stores. We are very careful when we source our stock, taking a great deal of time checking the quality, the true to nature realism of the first look, and the durability of every stem. Please note the colours on screen may be very slightly different in real life.
Wherever possible we choose real-touch products, which are simply extraordinary, and we also stock many silk and dried-touch stems that are beautiful in arrangements.
We sent a floral arrangement to Sarah's mother as a surprise and her father put them in water as they were so realistic!
Like anything of quality, if you take care of them, they can last for years. It is important to dust them periodically and gently reshape any flower heads that may have been flattened. Both of us are still using blooms we bought years ago. The stems are malleable and can be bent into different shapes to suit different vases and containers. If a leaf or flower head does come loose, a tiny amount of glue will hold it back in place and they continue to look wonderful. No watering, or wilting, no pollen or allergies, no danger to pets, just effortless style.
Yes and no. They really don’t like being exposed to rain, wind, or prolonged direct sun — much like real flowers in that respect. Door wreaths are best in a semi-enclosed porch if you have one; if not, they can look just as beautiful as wall hangings inside. We have decorated for outdoor parties with permanent florals, mixing them into flower beds and containers, and they looked wonderful. We simply brought them in at the end of the evening. Permanent florals are more designed for the indoors but they can be beautiful outdoors if you look after them.
We recommend checking the stem height listed in each arrangement or bouquet, and our notes on the type of vase that works best. Both glass and opaque vases work well, though if you use a clear vase, you may see the stems, particularly if they have been bent to achieve the right height. If this bothers you, add some natural foliage to conceal the stems or choose an opaque vase in a plain neutral shade. Your blooms will provide all the colour and style your home needs.
They will need a dust from time to time. Gently shake them outdoors or use a hairdryer on a low or cool setting. When you change your seasonal decor and want to store them away, pack them in something that protects the flower heads. The stems can be bent and re-bent, but you want to avoid the petals getting crushed. Our Blackheath Blooms boxes are ideal for this.
Yes, if the stems are plastic. This is actually a rather clever display idea with water in a clear vase. Many people will assume they are looking at real flowers. Whether you tell them is entirely up to you!
Absolutely. This is a wonderful approach that many interior designers have used for years. Having a few beautiful permanent focal stems, our Hydrangeas or Peonies, for example, alongside fresh seasonal foliage or filler flowers gives you the best of both worlds. Over the years we have hunted for really good-quality permanent forsythia for spring, but the colour is rarely quite right. Nothing beats a few sprigs from a neighbour’s garden for that real freshness.
Please contact us and we will do our very best to help. Any tariffs and import duties are the customer's responsibility, and we will deal with these on an individual basis.
At Blackheath Blooms, the sustainability concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle are built into our business. Because all of our flowers are beautifully crafted faux blooms, there's no cutting, no waste, and no need for water, pesticides, refrigerated transport or daily international flights shipping fragile flowers. Our arrangements are designed to last for years, making them a far more sustainable choice than fresh cut flowers. As we also sell individual stems, customers can mix and match blooms with different arrangements, and with Sarah's styling tips, we can help you create a fresh look from your collection of Blackheath Blooms. We also use plastic-free, recyclable packaging, and tape to ensure our environmental commitment extends right to your door. The packaging also has another role as purpose built storage for your blooms to ensure they have a long and happy life!
